OMEGA™ Acid & Caustic Waste
Neutralization System Features

What do process engineers want in a waste treatment system? Lower operating costs and no violations! Fines, violations and bad PR are what they expect, which explains why most boards of directors hate talking about waste treatment. It is seen as an uncontrollable expense. Today, Wastech offers something that boards do like: an automated waste treatment system that lowers operation costs and prevents violations. This may sound too good to be true, but Wastech's OMEGA™ system delivers!

OMEGA™ neutralization assures reliability and design excellence. Wastech engineers have incorporated 25 years of experience in putting together waste treatment systems to prevents accidents and eliminate NOVs (notice of violations). You will not find another waste neutralization system with better components or as many high-end features offered as standard. The following are examples of high-end system components provided by Wastech:

Double-contained chemical supply tanks. These are always provided by Wastech for safety and reliability. The tanks are normally custom fabricated of PP sheet, but can be modified with a carbon steel outer tank for NFPA non-flammable separation of dissimilar chemicals. Violation protection for discharge outside of limits. If the monitoring tank pH probe ever sees anything outside of discharge limits, actuated valves recycle the waste stream for reprocessing. This fail-safe design assure that the system discharge is always within limits, thereby eliminating NOVs.

Heavy-duty mixers, such as Lightnin, are the key to fast reactions and reliable neutralization operation. Wastech takes mixing very seriously, and mixer performance is monitored by software. Each mixer is specified for the tank shape and size for the application. Tank baffles may be included.
Seismic Zone 4 compliance. As a California supplier, Wastech understands seismic requirements and routinely delivers seismic designs and PE-stamped drawings. Seismic documentation does not delay our projects and can be presented with the submittal package. States other than California are increasingly requiring seismic compliance. Industrial, oversized, metering pumps allow the system to react rapidly to waste stream surges with slugs of strong acid or chemical dumps that would upset conventional designs and cause NOVs. Wastech refuses to user low-cost metering pumps.

Special tank sizes and shapes are computed to assure that the discharge is within limits for all expected surges in the waste stream.

Quality control panels. As a CSIA Certified Control System Integrator, Wastech builds UL-labeled panels with CAD wiring diagrams, labeled and color coded wiring, and quality components. Our control panel workmanship is unequaled in the industry. Advanced software control. As an expert in neutralization, Wastech has developed a unique software program named Zeus™ for automated and predictable control of acid neutralization systems. Zeus™ includes pH probe and alarm management, and can handle multiple-stage operation. Nothing like it exists elsewhere on the market.

Platforms with tie-downs and welded system components. These maintain system integrity during mechanical stress, such as earthquakes. Special piping connections, such as flanged inlets and outlets, can be requested. Forklift access is standard. Splash-guard double tubing over all fittings and supply lines. These provide operator safety in the event of a leak. Most other neutralization suppliers use unprotected tubing from the chemical metering pumps to the tanks, so that acid and caustic under pressure are continual operator risks.
Wastech uses only the most reliable industrial sensors, calibrates them, installs them correctly, and then monitors their life cycle with software. Since pH sensors can be the weakest links in the control system and can be consumed by the waste stream itself, some Wastech systems use three pH probes in each tank for redundancy.
Quality components and thoughtful design will result in operational savings and lower maintenance costs. When the system works reliably and is automated to anticipate problems, NOVs are eliminated!
